Here are some things to consider doing. Some items may not be applicable to you.


Approx. 1 of every 10 men will contract prostate cancer

Prostate cancer – prevention:

Regularly:

  • Consider eating more tomato-based foods eating at least 10 servings a week may reduce risk of prostate cancer by 45%
  • Look for the following symptoms:
    • Difficulty with urination
    • Having to get up at night
    • Frequent urination
    • Urgent urination

After 35 years old, yearly:

  • Get a rectal exam can also help detect rectal cancer, hidden blood in stool
  • Consider getting a blood test to check for elevated levels of prostate-specific antigens

Prostate cancer – treatment:

  • Ask your doctor about combining radiation with a hormone-blocking drug

Symptoms of an enlarged prostate send approx. 6 million men to the doctor every year in the U.S.
Half of all men can expect to have signs of an enlarged prostate by age 50

If you have one or more of the following symptoms:

Straining to urinate
Needing to urinate frequently
Pain and a burning sensation while urinating
A feeling that the bladder doesn’t fully void

  • Have your doctor determine if your prostate is enlarged

If your prostate is enlarged:

  • Ask your doctor about microwave treatment appears to reduce the possibility of retrograde ejaculation, impotence and incontinence – can be done as an outpatient
