Zoo
Here are some things to consider doing. Some items may not be applicable to you.
At least a few days before going:
- Check Internet and/or call zoo to:
- Confirm hours of park and specific attractions and events
- Determine whether the attractions you’re interested in are open
Before leaving home/hotel:
- Wear clothes appropriate for a lot of walking and perhaps rides, e.g., no open-toed footwear
If you visit a petting zoo:
There is a chance of contracting E. coli or salmonella which can be especially harmful to children and the elderly
-
Leave your food and drinks outside the petting zoo enclosure – so the animals can’t get to them and contaminate them
-
Ensure children avoid:
- Touching or stepping in manure
- Falling or sitting on the ground
- Putting their hand or fingers in their mouth (until they wash their hands thoroughly)
-
Don’t share your food with animals
-
After any contact with animals:
- Don’t put hand or fingers in mouth
- Wash your hands, and/or,
- Use hand sanitizer
-
Before eating:
- Wash your hands again
