Roller / Inline Skating
Here are some things to consider doing. Some items may not be applicable to you.
Before skating:
- Put your name and phone number on your helmet so someone can call your home if you are seriously injured
- Wear:
- Skates which fit
- Helmet which meets ANSI standards
- Wrist guards (with metal or plastic stays on top of and under your wrist)
- Elbow pads
- Knee pads
Beginning to skate:
- Try to keep your toes pointed slightly outwards
- Try to avoid bending over
- Try to avoid looking down at your feet
- Keep your knees slightly bent
- Alternately push each skate to the outside to move forward
While skating:
- Stay well clear of vehicular traffic
If you start to fall:
- Avoid catching your fall with your hands – wrist injuries are common for roller skaters
- Try to fall on your rear end and one of your thighs
