Golf

Here are some things to consider doing. Some items may not be applicable to you.

Before playing:

  • Check the weather forecast

If a lightning storm might occur while you play:

  • Determine if the course has lightning monitors installed

Regularly:

If you're aware that there's a lightning storm nearby:

Immediately:

  • Stay away from all metal objects
  • Avoid being under a tree
  • Stay out of water
  • Avoid holding metal objects, e.g., golf clubs, golf carts
  • Go into a building or a vehicle with windows rolled up

Golf exercises your heart and keeps your heart rate up. This will naturally lower your risk for heart disease and other cardiovascular issues, as well as potentially lowering your levels of 'bad' cholesterol. Regularly playing golf may even lead to an increase in life expectancy. A new study has also found that doing moderate exercise such as the walking involved in regular games of golf is the best way to slow down the brain's ageing process if you're over 50.

It is also a pretty relaxing hobby and also helps you spend more time with your family and friends. This is one of the main reasons why golf as a sport, as well as a hobby, is an excellent choice. Thus, if you're looking for an upscale hobby which is equally relaxing as well, golf is one of the perfect options for you.

If there are no buildings or vehicles nearby:

  • Squat with feet together and hands over ears
  • Suspend play until at least 30 minutes after it appears the storm has passed most lightning strikes occur at the beginning or end of a storm
