Flooding – general
Here are some things to consider doing. Some items may not be applicable to you.
If you have a plumbing problem and flooding is occurring or threatened:
- Secure water near the leak (e.g., under the sink) or at the main valve for the residence
- Determine if the problem item is still under warranty
If the item is still under warranty:
- Determine who is permitted to work on the item
- Contact your insurance company to determine if the damage is covered
If you live in an area susceptible to flooding:
- Obtain flood insurance
- Consider buying a pump
- Consider having sand bag materials on hand
- Decide what you would do if flooding appeared likely, e.g.:
- Move items upstairs
- Decide which items you would take with you if you had to evacuate
If flooding appears likely soon:
- Move items to area in house which is least likely to be flooded
- Move items to another location (besides your residence) which is less likely to be flooded
