Trees

Here are some things to consider doing. Some items may not be applicable to you.


Regularly:

  • Inspect your trees for safety and health (to help ensure the tree or one of its branches doesn’t fall on people or property):
    • Check base of tree for:
      • Fungi, mushrooms, rot or decay
      • Cracks
      • Hollow areas
      • Roots lifting and cracking soil away from the root
      • Mushrooms
    • Check trunk of tree for:
      • Cracks
      • Loose bark
      • Fungi, mushrooms, rot or decay
      • Hollow areas
    • Check canopy/crown for:
      • Dead, dying or weak branches
      • Holes in branches
      • Fungi, mushrooms, rot or decay
      • Areas which look significantly different from the rest of the canopy
  • Remove other roots and plants which might inhibit the ability of the tree’s roots to collect water and nutrients
