ATM’s

Well before using an ATM:

  • Avoid using ATM’s between 7 p.m. and midnight – 50% of crime at ATM’s occurs during these hours
  • Try to choose an ATM which is:
    • Well lit
    • In a busy area
    • A drive through

Before using an ATM:

  • Have card ready
  • Have forms filled out

While using an ATM:

  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Watch for suspicious people and activity
  • Use mirrors at the ATM to watch behind you

If using a drive-through ATM:

  • Keep car running
  • Only open the driver’s window

After using ATM:

  • Don’t count or display money

After withdrawing money:

  • Don’t show the money
  • Don’t stay in the area

If someone approaches:

  • Drive away quickly

You must check, if there is card reader in the slot you push your card.

Always check the money quickly. If large sum is being withdrawn some times ATM dispenses the money in two instalments. It happened to me once. I was busy counting the first instalment and the next one was waiting to be picked up. It timed out and went back in to the machine. Had hard time recovering my money from the bank
